What is up with radio??

I’ve been listening to the radio recently in my car more often than CD’s and have been noticing some trends that really confuse me…
On MyFM (I live in the Inland Empire, close to LA), they’ve been playing things like Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love” and Colplay’s “The Scientist.” I think I get Lewis’ track, which is only 4 years or so old, but am confused as to why they’re playing a Coldplay song that’s like almost a decade old!
The X Factor is coming soon to a Fox network near you and so that’s why they’re playing “Bleeding Love.” I get it, you want to tout your most famous winner… and yes, I dig the song. The organ is super cool. But what the heck is Coldplay doing? And why “The Scientist?” I mean, people must have liked a song other than that one. Don’t get me wrong: Again, good song, but why? I’m sure other people dug “Fix You,” “Speed of Sound” (okay, maybe not) or even “Viva la Vida” more than “The Scientist.”
If Coldplay is trying to get back into people’s consciousness via this song to announce a new album, I’m afraid I don’t get it, but then again, I wrote this post. Whatever. Maybe it did work! ENGLISH TRICKERY! TALLY HO and all that GOV’NA!
